R-Cade Launch Update - 1
This project is a passion project hoping to explore motion tracking technology within game development. Using Leap Motion trackers and the built in Ultra Leap package system in Unity, I am creating a project full of mini-games that the player can play in first person using the Leap Motion trackers. I will also attach YouTube videos with short demonstrations of the motion tracking in effect, if anyone doesn't have access to a Leap Motion, but is still interested in the development/game process.
The initial planning stage for concepts of the game hasn't officially occurred yet, so that needs to be conducted as soon as possible. I know the general direction of the game, which is just a game full of many different small mini-games, but that is too broad. As of now, the project is in its prototype phase.
Some major things that I learned during this project's first development phase are:
- Motion tracking is incredibly complex, but it is made easier by built in SDKs and packages.
- Following along Ultra Leap's documentation and examples is helpful in learning all the different capabilities of the Leap Motion.
- Visual representation of game loops within the game using UI is important.
- Having a win/loss scenario set up is crucial for having a complete game.
This first phase was launched to itch.io on 10/12/2024.
