Keeper Launch - 1
I worked on this game as part of a team project for my Interactive Display and Production class. The main goal of this class was to explore new technologies within the game industry, and my team focused on Leap Motion controllers and their motion tracking capabilities. I mainly worked on the UI design for the game, as well as the main system for the ball shooting/randomization. I also implemented the other team member's work into the main scene for the game.
This was a completely online class, which led to some issues with collaboration, but I would say that in general, the team worked hard on getting the game build. The major challenge for me was learning the Leap Motion software initially, but after overcoming that hurdle, actual development of the game was quite fun.
Some major things that I learned during this project's first development phase are:
- Exploring samples that come with pre-made packages, like Ultraleap's Leap Motion package for Unity, makes the process for learning the software much easier.
- Complex solutions to problems can sometimes lead to issues down the line because their complexity can lead to failures. Trying to find the best, simple solution can often help with development overall.
- UI visual representation is important for the player's overall quality of play and experience.
This first phase was launched to itch.io on 12/20/2024.
